A Pandora Box Has Been Opened - Deep Fake Videos: A Commentary

Image
Deep fake movie trailer for Back to the Future 4 is making the internet rounds. Image courtesy of Richard Nebens / The Direct.com A deepfake movie trailer is making the rounds on the internet that is misleading the public into believing there's a new sequel coming out for the Back to the Future movie franchise. It actually popped up on my phone Google news feed.  The deepfake is fake is titled "Back to the Future 4: Back in Timeline". The deepfake movie trailer shows Tom Holland's head superimposed on Michael J. Fox's body. It spliced together clips from past BTTF movies. It also took a clip from Spider Man: Far From Home which shows Tom and Michael in a scene. The deepfake movie trailer was uploaded on You Tube by KH Studios and it's raked up 11 million views. This isn't the first time someone has tried to fool BTTF fans into thinking a new movie was coming. In 2020, You Tube EZRyderX47 created one using Tom Holland and Robert Downey, Jr. and their face

A Tough Year And A Rough Road Ahead For Disney Studio: A Commentary

Image
Photo / Gif: The Daily Beast The Mouse House (Govt Name: Disney) has had a rough year. Between fighting with Florida Governor Ron DeathSatan DeSantis, the WGA-SAG-AFTRA strike, and disappointing box office results for their movies - it's been a trail of mouse droppings for the company. The box office disappointments for 2023 include the live action remake of Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones and Dial for Dollars Dial of Destiny, Antman & The Wasp: Quantumania, and Haunted Mansion. Like other studios, Disney has over played its hand and reliance on tent pole franchises and remakes.  Disney announced they're pushing back the release of Snow White and Magazine Dreams “until further notice”. Two other untitled Pixar movies and a few other live-action remakes (Tarzan, Princess and the Frog to name a few) that were under development have been cancelled. They blame the SAG-AFTRA strike. No doubt that's a major reason but IMO, there are other underlying issues plaguing the comp

Millennials Can't Communicate With Gen Z (oh the irony!): A Commentary

Image
I ran across an article that had me chuckling about Millennials and their frustration with Gen Z.   Millennials, the generation who grew up with social media and turned self-promotion into a cottage industry. Their admiration and idolization of social media influencers made it acceptable for self-absorbed behavior to be the norm.   In an ironic twist, Millennials are now becoming frustrated in their inability to relate to Gen Z – a generation heavily influenced by Millennials’ behavior. Millenials are turning to Tik Tok to air their grievances and to seek help in figuring out how to understand and communicate with Gen Z – especially their slang. They feel disconnected from Gen Z who, in my opinion, took their cues from Millennials to further establish the trend of using pompous language to describe everyday things. Why do they do this? To give things a fashionable spin to make it IG or Pintrest worthy. For example: Gen Z Millennial Definition

LinkedIn: From Professional Networking To Social Crap: A Commentary

Image
Photo: MuckRuck; LinkedIn logo. There are many who may remember the early days of the professional network site known as LinkedIn. It was started back in 2003 as a place where professionals could network with like-minded individuals without the noise, drama,  and oversharing BS that plague other platforms (ex: Facebook). It was also a place to network with recruiters and job hunt as the platform allows companies to post openings. When I was surfing the internet the other day, I ran across an article by Business Insider on how weird LinkedIn has become, which prompted me to write this commentary. I was one of the early adopters of LinkedIn (joined around 2005) and I’ve seen firsthand how it’s changed. Here’s an example of a LinkedIn post that was included in the article. This is a typical of what you expect to find on the site nowadays.   "Take one post from Peter Rota, an SEO specialist from Massachusetts. "I have a secret," he wrote to his thousands of followers i

Lego Ditches Plans To Use Recycled Plastic: A Commentary

Image
Photo: Freebie Supply   After deliberation, experimentation, and whatever the heck else the company did, Lego has abandoned plans to make its bricks out of recycled plastic. This contradicts their pledge to only use recycled materials by 2032. The company said it spent years testing the process to make their bricks from PET recycled plastic but they decided "screw it, we're quitting this shit and our pledge" for numerous reasons. PET plastic is what's used to make water bottles, soda bottles, containers, and a bunch of other stuff. As we all know, plastic water bottles are one of the biggest culprits to clogging up landfills and pollution, especially in the ocean where those damn things can be found floating in the most obscure places. According to National Geographic, half of all plastic pollution is submerged below the ocean surface.  Lego officials said they discovered that making the bricks from used plastic bottles and other plastic materials would require the c

The Pumpkin Spice Takeover: A Commentary

Image
Photo: Metaweb / Ranker Fall /Autumn is my favorite time of the year. The leaves are turning, the air is cooler, and it signals the start of the holiday food season. There's one thing I do not like about fall: the exploitation of pumpkin spice. In the old days, pumpkin spice was limited to...well, pumpkin pies. Pumpkin spice is a mix of cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. It contains no pumpkin. It's a spice blend that was created eons of time ago mainly used in pumpkin pies.  Over the past 20 years the innocence pumpkin spice has been trashed and thrown on just about every product you can imagine. I blame Satanbucks Starbucks for it. When they introduced pumpkin spice latte back in 2003, it was a huge success and one of their most popular drinks - despite it being a seasonal offering. Other companies noticed and thus, the whoring of pumpkin spice began. I don't hate pumpkin spice (as it was originally intended). I like the smell of it and pumpkin pie is one of my favor
