OPEN POST: With Island Girl's Spectacular New '48 Chevrolet Stylemaster!

Island Girl, aka IG, just rolled into the 'hood in her brand-new Chevy - and she is the envy of all her neighbors! Such sleekness, such style. Even Gladys (that nosey neighbor who always finds something to criticize) went silent with envy. As for Agnes, well Aggie's agog with admiration. Even Horace (Velma's husband from down the block) came out to take a look, although (let's get real) he really just wanted to check out IG herself. The car was purely secondary.

In 1948, lots of big important stuff happened, like President Truman signing the Marshall Plan, which gave 5 billion dollahs in aid to 16 countries. Later that same year he signed Executive Order 9981, ending racial segregation in the U.S. Armed Forces. I admit I don't know much about him, but it seems like he was a pretty decent dude. Meanwhile, Spike Jones had a big hit in 1948 with "The William Tell Overture." It's been recorded hundreds of times, but I love this version best of all:

And now a little boast. Except not really, because it's nothing I accomplished, but my last remaining uncle used to gig with Glen Campbell (and Roy Clark, and Johnny Rivers and a bunch of other musicians) when they were in our town. That's prior to my memories, but I heard about it listening to the grownups way back when.

Happy Open Post, darlings, and please don't fire an arrow at an apple on anyone's head unless your aim is good!
