In 1948, lots of big important stuff happened, like President Truman signing the Marshall Plan, which gave 5 billion dollahs in aid to 16 countries. Later that same year he signed Executive Order 9981, ending racial segregation in the U.S. Armed Forces. I admit I don't know much about him, but it seems like he was a pretty decent dude. Meanwhile, Spike Jones had a big hit in 1948 with "The William Tell Overture." It's been recorded hundreds of times, but I love this version best of all:
And now a little boast. Except not really, because it's nothing I accomplished, but my last remaining uncle used to gig with Glen Campbell (and Roy Clark, and Johnny Rivers and a bunch of other musicians) when they were in our town. That's prior to my memories, but I heard about it listening to the grownups way back when.
