MERRY CHRISTMAS! This photograph by Dimitris Legakis was taken in Swansea, Wales,  on the Friday night before Christmas, which is often called Mad Friday or Black Eye Friday, because of the tradition of drinking oneself silly on that night of the year. I must admit that the tableau's absurdity does look Renaissancey. Some have even claimed it reminded them of the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, but a 2023 boozy street version. Just looking at the girl throwing v signs or peace signs sticking out her lizard tongue, the two women in the back smiling at something on a mobile phone, the man taking a pouty selfie with a cigarette in his hand, the man looking at the camera smirking, and the composition as a whole, I get it. You could never even pose people like this because it is so spontaneous. The second in the series has been compared to 19th-century French Romanticism.
