OPEN POST: Bells Will Ring, The Sun Will Shine!

It's 1964 and all sorts of good stuff's happening. Sidney Poitier just became the first Black person to win the Best Actor award at the Oscars, 12 men have publicly burned their draft cards in protest of the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 has been signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson.  "Mary Poppins" has been released and is a smash hit, and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" aired for the first time. Also, The Dixie Cups are all over the radio with this ditty: So hop into your Cadillac Coupe Deville and head over to the Chapel of Love, or maybe make a pit-stop in Open Post and stay a while, darlings! Greetings, music trollops, and welcome to another edition of Manor Music Monday, today with a little opera, a little Broadway, and a big serving of jazz. Confused? Don't be. Back in the day, whenever a musical opened on The Great White Way, the cast album would frequently rise to the top of the music charts. But wait - there's more. When "My Fair Lady" opened on Broadway, for instance, and released its cast album, what followed were seemingly endless LPs in which singing stars and celebrated jazz luminaries released their own versions of "My Fair Lady." Want to hear jazz notable Shelly Mann kick it with "My Fair Lady?" Step right up ! And on and on.
