Sidney Poitier just became the first Black person to win the Best Actor award at the Oscars, 12 men have publicly burned their draft cards in protest of the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 has been signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson.  "Mary Poppins" has been released and is a smash hit, and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" aired for the first time.
