(Pseudo) Science Snapshots: It's Bigfoot! (No it's not)
Cryptozoology is the study of supposed "undiscovered" creatures. It's not really a science, and encompasses things like undiscovered large apes (sasquatch, yeti), chupacabras, the Loch Ness Monster, you get the picture.
I read something once I found interesting. I can't remember where, so apologies for the lack of citation. But, a lawyer looks for evidence to support their hypothesis, while a scientist looks for evidence to disprove it.
I learned this in my statistics class, to take the null hypothesis. For example, if my hypothesis is, "There are storks in the park," I can never disprove it. If I never find a single stork, that doesn't mean there AREN'T any. I have no reason to update my hypothesis that I just pulled out of my ass. I'll always insist there are some storks in that damn park. Whereas if I take the hypothesis, "There are no storks in the park," I can disprove that the instant I find a stork and update my hypothesis to something more in line with the evidence I collected.
Cryptozoologists are much more lawyer than scientist in this regard. Except, now we have evidence of bigfoot! (no we don't)
This shit got posted to Facebook a while ago:
If you can't access it here, check out the 9news article here: https://www.9news.com/article/news/weird/bigfoot-colorado/73-1cfcbcc0-a18b-4417-b997-ac046f068c00
Sure, someone can sit there and tell me it's bigfoot. But I'll go right ahead and let you know that this was taken from a well known tourist train in a part of the Colorado mountains where property is owned by Sasquatch Expedition Campers. The owner regularly dresses up like bigfoot, and I don't know about you but that video sure as hell looks like some dude in a monkey suit.
