WEEKEND MORNING COFFEE: Shia LaBeouf Finds Jesus (I didn't know he was missing). NCIS Is Getting A Prequel. RIP To David Soul And Christian Oliver.

The first week of 2024 is behind us. Only 51 more weeks to go. I'm already counting down. I hope your New Year is off to a good start. Mine has been "meh".  I'm enjoying a little peace & quiet since I worked from home this past week. I packed up the holiday decorations and lazed around the house. I managed to watch a movie called, The Brass Teapot. It's a cute, dark comedy.  It started off promising, funny, with the concept of  how far people will go when greed takes over a person's morals. But then it kinda dragged on..and on. Check it out on Tubi. With that, have a good weekend.

♦  Shia LaBeouf  has become a card carrying member of the "I Found Jesus" club. The actor, who is better known for his controversial behavior, drunken antics, arrests, and being the worst part of Indiana Jones 4 movie  has found religion. I guess it must have been hiding in that Chicago Walgreens store he was arrested at a few years ago. According to the Capuchin Franciscans, Shia has, "fully entered the Catholic church through the sacrament of confirmation".  Translation: he ate the holy communion wafer, sipped some wine, and said a few hail Mary's.  BTW: I read Capuchin Franciscans as Capuchin monkeys. I need more coffee. Shia is so immersed in his new religious enlightenment that he's considering becoming a deacon. Read More

Comment: I'm always suspicious of people who are born again Christians or claim to have found Jesus. For starters why are Jesus and God lost? I thought they're suppose to be everywhere and available 24/7. So I don't get the whole "I found them" thing.  IMO, people who claim to have  "found Jesus" use it as ploy hoping that people will excuse their past shitty behavior. It also bugs me when they advertise since it reeks of attention whoring. I wonder if Shia  will use his spiritual awakening to resurrect his career.  I predict we will see him in christian based movies. BTW... another celeb who recently "found Jesus" is Kat Von D *insert eye roll*.

♦ Actor David Soul, best know for the 1970's TV show Starsky & Hutch, has died. He was 80. Cause of death was not revealed in the family statement.  David was born in Chicago and gained dual citizen when he became a British citizen in 2004. He lived his later years in London.  David's career started in TV and his big break came when he was cast as detective Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson in Starsky & Hutch.  The show ran from 1975 - 1979.  After it ended, he continued acting by making appearances in TV movies and shows including Salem's Lot and Poirot.  He also appeared on big screen movies including Hanoi Hilton and the 2004 reboot of Starsky and Hutch. David was also a singer and scored a US hit back in 1977 with the ballad, Don't Give Up on Us.  David was married 5 times and has 6 kids. Read More

Comment: I remember watching Starsky & Hutch when I was a very young tater tot. I was fascinated with the red Gran Torino they drove. I thought it was such a cool car.  After Starsky & Hutch ended, David had a difficult time achieving the same level of stardom he enjoyed in the role that made him a household name. In the early 1990s he left the US to become a stage actor at London's West End. That prompted him to become a UK citizen.  Condolences to his family.

♦  A NCIS prequel is in the works.  It will focus on a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs. It will be called, NCIS: Origin. Pfft...how unoriginal.  The prequel will be set in 1991with narration provided by Mark Harmon. The show will focus on how Gibbs got his start as agent and the early days of his career with the NCIS.  Mark Harmon and his son, Sean Harmon, will be executive producers.  No word on who will play the role of a young agent Gibbs. Comment: It's bad enough that big screen movies have prequels, sequels, live action remakes, reboots, and rehash leftovers. But does it have to infiltrate TV?  Of course! Another reason why I hate Hollywood. BTW, who the hell is asking for a prequel of NCIS? This show has been on a long, long time. The last time I saw it was years ago and I thought it had grown stale, predictable, and boring. Mark Harmon was faxing-in his performance.  But since Hollywood is a lazy, zero f**ks given industry they will fire up the assembly line and crank out crap that requires minimal effort.

♦ Actor Christian Oliver, best know for his roles in Speed Racer, Valkyrie, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has died in a plane crash with his 2 daughters (aged 10 and 12). The pilot and owner of the single engine plane also died.  The crash occurred  shortly after takeoff near the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.  An investigation is under way to determine what caused the small plane to crash into the ocean. BTW: In 2021 he and his wife got divorced. She was not in the plane.  Read More
