EVENING NIGHTCAP: OJ Simpson Has Died. Sheryl Wants Sympathy. Melrose Place Is Coming Back...Again. Today's "Um...Who's This"?

►OJ Simpson, the ex-football player who was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, has died. He was 76. Cause of death was cancer.  Before embarking on a life of crime, OJ was one of the best NFL players. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1968 and then turned pro by joining the Buffalo Bills.  After he was acquitted in the "Trial of the Century" for the murder of Nicole and her friend Ron, he continued to being in the headlines and not in a good way. In 2007 he was involved in a Las Vegas hotel robbery and kidnapping. He was found guilty and sentenced to 33 years in prison but was paroled in 2017. He lived in Las Vegas until his death. OJ is survived by 4 grown children (a 5th child, Aaren, with his first wife Marguerite Whitley, died in 1979 at the age of 2 of accidental drowning). Read More

Comment: What can you say about OJ that hasn't been said already. He had tremendous talent as a football player. But his violent behavior overshadowed his sports legacy. Good riddance to a person who lost whatever semblance of decency he had a long time ago. I hope that the families of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman are now able to find some peace with OJ's death.

► Singer and songwriter Sheryl Crow, who has a reported net worth of $70 million, is crying about how hard she has to hustle these days to make ends meet. Sheryl claims that it's all due to people not buying records anymore and the popularity of online music. She said she was forced to sell some of her songs for TV commercials to "just stay afloat". Oh, Sheryl....stop exaggerating, it's not like you're living out of your Rolls Royce. She currently lives on a 152 acre horse farm in Nashville that includes a ginormous mansion (see below), it's own church and recording studio. She sold her Hollywood home for $11.5 million and a NYC apt for $2.7 million a few years ago. Read More

Comment: Sheryl does have a point about people not buying records anymore. Spotify and similar online services do screw over musicians. The only way for musicians to make the big bucks these days is by touring.  That being said, Sheryl should have kept her mouth shut and be grateful for what she has. She also should have put some brain cells into her message because she's coming across as an entitled, whiny rich brat.

► The 1990s are roaring back with the resurrection of Melrose Place (again). The show was rebooted in 2010 and it was welcomed like a zit on prom night. It lasted one season. The 2024 reboot (maybe the 3rd time will be the charm) will reunite original cast members Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton, and Daphne Zuniga.  The plot will center on: Read More

"When one of their dearest friends dies suddenly, the OG residents of Melrose Place gather to honor the deceased. But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective."

Comment: I want to see Kristin Davis, Alyssa Milano, and Lisa Rina brought back as modern day "karens" who have the ultimate "karen bitchfest standoff" vs. Heather Locklear.  When the original Melrose Place was on, I wasn't able watch a lot of it because of my work & school schedule. I do remember Thomas Calabro (who played Michael). He was the resident jerk.  I thought Andrew Shue (who played Billy) was kinda of a wet blanket and a big cry baby.  Anyway, I might watch this reboot out of sheer curiosity if they bring back more of the original cast. Below is Daphne (who played Jo) slapping Marcia Cross (who played Kimberly). Oh the drama! YES!

► Today's "Oprah Who's Dis?" is brought to you Gwen Stefani looking like a slutty Precious Moments statue. She no longer looks like Gwen from "Tragic Kingdom" music days. It's truly tragic. The photos below are from an interview with NYLON. During the interview, she gushed about Blaaake and her upcoming reunion with No Doubt at Coochiella Coachella.  Read More

Comment:  Her face has undergone so many changes that it gives new meaning to the expression "where the rubber meets the road".
