In 1982, I was a poor, yet simple, boy of 8 or 9, and I watched everything. We had 3 networks and 2 PBS stations, as well as 2 local stations that showed bowling, farm reports and some sort of stupid puppet show - as well as a really awesome show on Saturday nights that had old black-and-white, scary (but not really scary) movies.
"Fantasies" was not among those, though it was a major, prime-time network movie, and it concerned the stars of "a very sexy soap opera" being murdered by a psycho stalker killer, the hook being that it starred ACTUAL SOAP OPERA STARS (!), the main one being the delightful Miss Robin Mattson from "General Hospital" and that dude from "All My Children" who's most famous for the commercial in which he muttered those immortal words, "I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV."
"Fantasies" is on Youtube, and I just watched the first scene in which a self-absorbed, pervy asshole actor gets killed pretty quick and it's really satisfying because he's such a dick. I'm not recommending "Fantasies" (or am I?), but if you're at the doctor's office waiting for your weekly prostate exam, you might find it engaging.
Also, can we just talk about Robin Mattson? How many actresses got to play not one, but TWO amazing long-running roles? When I was home sick from school she played the psychopathic, murderous Heather Webber on "General Hospital," and later, when I was skipping school, she played the devious, greedy Gina Lockridge on "Santa Barbara" (in fact, a high point in TV history was when Gina was given a "It's A Wonderful Life"-esque chance to see what the world would be like if she'd never been born and it turned out, everyone was happy, prosperous and fulfilled without her).
Greetings, ham-handers, and welcome to another edition of Manor Music Monday, today with two, count 'em, two, fabulous artists, plus a ginsu knife, free shipping and consensual tickles 'n kisses. Both artists, dont'cha know, were very early practitioners of rockabilly, blues and R&B. Intrigued? You really should be. Their music is perfect for anyone's summer playlist and pair quite well with mojitos, mint juleps or Bellini cocktails on the porch or by the pool. They're excellent for barbeques and backyard parties, too, especially the ones that get sloppy and last till the early yawning hours. Tonight, if you head over to the Manor's "Tooty Booty After Hours Lounge And Pizzeria," DJ Li'l Scratch will be laying down their tracks, so make sure you stop by. But first, take two steps back (at least) for Miss Lula Reed: Imposing, isn't she? Mentored in her hometown as a youth by Professor Harold Bogs , a blind Ohio pastor and gospel singing recor...
