OPEN POST: See The U.S.A. In Your Chevrolet!

I was at the gas station the other day when I heard this horrendously loud car go roaring by, but it was gone in a flash. Buuuuut it must've went around the block because it roared right in. I asked the owner if I could take a picture (because I've never seen a '58 Delray in the wild) and he kindly gave his permission. He plans to restore it, yay!

Delray's were the economy Chevys of their day but even at nearly 70 years old, this gal looks pretty damn swank as far as I'm concerned, and when she rolled off the assembly line in 1958 she outshone every Cadillac and Rolls Royce on the block.

One of the things I love about those Fabulous '50s is the unbridled optimism. There just seemed to be an assumption that things were going to keep getting better and better, which is why I love watching videos like this, the kitchen...OF THE FUTURE:

Of course, the '50s were also the Golden Age of live television, and live commercials as well, and sometimes things didn't go as planned.

A comment on youtube: "...And the defroster kicks in after you've opened the door 50 or 60 times...which at this rate won't occur until the early 70s."

Still, that lady gets major respect from me for valiantly trying to sail past every obstacle. Watch when she tries to elbow the refrigerator door back open, no luck, then she JABS her elbow backward like a prizefighter and it swings open like a dream. So let's hop in your brand-new Delray and drive over to welcome the new neighbors.

After all, it's Open Post, darlings!
