Expect much wagging of that damn dog this week, just like Obama. Psyche! Obama never launched a conventional military attack against Iran.  Meanwhile, in Washington DC:  All we can do is pray for the midterms and hope for the future:  Photo Credit: @AdameMedia/X

Trump and The Epstein Files! It's the nightmarish gift that keeps on giving (this list continuously updates).  And not just in America, but across the pond, too.  Recently, however, it's not the perpetrators who're leaping into the the spotlight, but their enablers, chief amongst them, Pam Bondi,  America's execrable Attorney General who refused to apologize to the many victims of sexual assault and rape in The Epstein Files - quite a few of whom were underage at the time they were victimized. Why? Because doing so, she said, would be getting "down in the gutter." Whose gutter, her own or someone else's, was not specified.  Also unspecified, or left unexplained, was what the stock market has to do with prosecuting rapists and their enablers, or why pursuing justice against criminals, ostensibly Pam's job as Attorney General, has taken a backseat to the NASDAQ. Some stunt, Pam! Monday, 2/16, is President's Day in America, and happily, citizenry in...

The ongoing revelations from The Epstein Files are shocking to many, but to some, it's merely confirming what's already been known for decades about its many boldface names, including Trump, of course, his wife-in-name Melania, and Jeffrey Epstein's pimp, Ghislaine Maxwell. After all, Jeffrey was investigated for under-age sexual assault and sex trafficking in 2005, indicted in 2006, and walked scott-free in 2007 with a slap on the wrist, or what was called the "deal of the century," in which he served no jail time for pleading guilty to two felony prostitution-related charges. The deal required him to register as a sex offender. So people knew. Especially all those bold-face names who continued to party with him at various locales, including the notorious "Epstein Island."  Yet it's Hilary and Bill Clinton who'll soon come under fire in closed door depositions they're required to give the federal government in a Republican-led probe later th...

He bungled his big boy takeover of Greenland, his ICE initiative has resulted in two government-sanctioned murders (as of this writing), consumer confidence has fallen to its lowest rating since 2014, and our European allies are fast abandoning us. Is it any wonder that Trump's approval ratings have tanked to historic lows?  Even a substantial percentage of MAGA faithful are wondering when the good times will roll, since tariffs have caused prices to go up in almost all sectors, not to mention the continuing flood of damning, stomach-churning Epstein files. Oh, and Black History Month? "What's that?" says Trump.  This first year of Trump's second Presidency has felt like ten years. If  Democrat politicians don't grow a spine - instead of sitting back and pining for the midterms - then doom is certain. The only amusement we'll enjoy will come from the rest of the world, like Italy, which recently made a home crafts suggestion:

Are we having fun yet? The elections brought a blue wave, the shutdown has ended, and the Epstein files will soon be released. Why so "sad-emoticon?" At least some people are having a good time , right? Though I guess it depends on what side of the aisle you're on, or if you'd like to receive actual healthcare.  I suppose things could get better in the short term, since stranger things have been happening lately , yet when the entire economy appears beholden to a bunch of wealthy, but  dim-witted, tech bros , it's had to work up any real excitement, especially since said tech bros are trying to lasso in your kids.  At least we have hopeful distractions, but we all know how well those will turn out:  Art Credit: Joel Pett/Tribune Content Service, Dave Whamond/Cagle

While we Americans like to think of Canadians as polite, well-mannered citizens, they turn positively feral at the sight of Trump, as evidenced by a Trump punching bag which a group of ordinarily gracious Vancouver moose heads (allegedly!) were only to happy to punch, pummel and viciously kick.  C’est tiguidou, cheri. C'est le fun.  To which I say, we understand, eh-sayers, we understand. After all, we can't even escape our hell-hole of a country these days. Calisse, right? And though sane 'Muricans won big in the recent election, causing much amusing uproar , we ain't out of the woods yet . The stupid rich are still getting stupid rich , and it could all blow up before you know it. Chalice de   Crisse!   So keep punching and kicking, mon amis . We're hanging on by a thread here, and hoping that all won't be forgotten come the midterms in 2026. Because, tabarnak , that would be tres-tres hellacious, no?

PECKERWOOD'S WEEKLY LUNOCRACY POST! The Not So Young Republicans Week of 10/20/25

Image
When Politico published the cache of racist, bigoted, antisemitic, and violent messages from the “Young” Republicans’ private group chat, it didn’t just expose a few “edgy” or “off color” jokes. It exposed rot that had been lurking beneath charm, networking, and the polished illusion of respectability. These were not anonymous internet basement dwelling trolls. They were congressional aides, campaign staffers, interns, and strategists. They are the ones who will inherit the microphones, the legislation, the power, and the laws. In that putrid chat, they wrote like people who believed they were protected. They used slurs as punctuation and bonded over cruelty. The reaction from the GOP was predictable: a few suspensions, some hollow statements, and a chorus of “That’s not who we are.” Worthless excuses that no one who paid attention would believe. This is exactly who they are when they think no one is watching. But this story isn’t just about them. It’s about the ones who knew and...

PECKERWOOD'S WEEKLY LUNOCRACY POST! For the Week of 8/25/2025!

I n case you were willfully ignoring the news this past Friday - and who can blame you? - the Trump administration popped a squat in the late afternoon and left us with quite the cow pie, or the transcripts of a recent interview with convicted pedophile pimp, Ghislaine Maxwell, helpfully conducted by Trump's loyal lawyer minions. Never mind that she wasn't under oath, and never mind that her statements - "He was a gentleman in all respects," she cooed about Trump's social engagements with dead pedophile Jeffrey Epstein - are almost comically slavish. Or they would be if there weren't so many sickeningly abused girls and young women in the wake of this horror show. But qui pro quo , Maxwell likely intoned after the interview, since she was moved shortly after to a far cushier prison, which I'm sure is just a coincidence, n'est pas? Will MAGA take this on faith and move on from their obsession with Epstein? Maybe not, but they will be distracted, which...

PECKERWOOD'S WEEKLY LUNOCRACY POST! For the Week of 8/18/2025!

Did you hear? For RepubliKKKans, making things up is the new "alternative facts." Wheeeeee! Don't like the chances of winning the midterms? Redraw and make up new districts which favor your candidates. Don't like that your heralded meeting with Putin was a big flop? No biggie. Just say it was a big hit. Such fun! But that's just the beginning. Everything can be fudged : job reports, health data, crime stats, even our nation's own history. Think the courts are going to help bring a stop to this? Think again, because the John Roberts Supreme Court is here to help. In fact, in my estimation, John Roberts is doing more to dismantle democracy than Mitch McConnell, Ronald Reagan and Trump combined. Think I exaggerate or give Roberts too much credit? Consider first his court's 2010 ruling, or "Corporations are people," and look further through his court's almost total destruction of The Voting Rights Act, along with allowing any illogical and des...

PECKERWOOD'S WEEKLY LUNOCRACY POST! For the Week of 8/11/2025

Can the U.S. ever return to normal? Even after The Orange One is defeated and MAGA loses power? After all, what President, Democrat or Republican, will want to relinquish all the power granted to them by the current Supreme Court and its creepy shadow docket? What is the court actually thinking? Has this ever happened before? "We have a precedent in Nazi jurist Carl Schmitt," notes Crooked Timber , "whose 1932 book, The Concept of the Political , offers some insight into the Supreme Court majority’s mindset. If that mindset is not literally fascist, it is fascist-adjacent...." In the meantime, here are some fascinating/horrifying articles you may have missed this past week: 1. They just can't quit him. No, for real. 2. This pleases me so much.  So does this. 3. Finally, genuine horror as American Evangelicals contribute in a big way to Amazon deforestation and the erasure of indigenous culture. It's a horrible situation and it's getting worse. Photo Cred...

WE NEED YOUR VOTE! Should Open Post Remain Politics-Free In 2025?

Image
It's a new day, a new year, with a forthcoming U.S. President we've come to loath even more than we ever thought possible. This past general election was grueling for many of you. For my part, I was devastated. I'd allowed myself to dream of a comparably sane political landscape with President Harris at the helm. I'd convinced myself that no one in their right mind would vote for a guy who pantomimes blowies and insists immigrants are eating dogs and cats. After the disastrous election results rolled in, just the sight of Orange Anus' face sent many of you clicking off your browsers and screaming, "I can't, I can't! No more politics crap!" I was hesitant at first when some of you pleaded for a politics-free Open Post, and a separate Lunocracy Post where such things could be discussed. But you convinced me - along with several of my Manor co-hosts - and it's worked out quite well, hasn't it? Or has something freewheeling and vital been lost...
