OPEN POST: The Sunday Roast, featuring the Knitting, Stilted Shepherds of Landes, France

  Getty Images Happy Sundog, y'all! Today we're doing a road trip, as is traditional on Sunday, only instead of ending up at Grandma's house for hours of boredom with your cousins and food in every shade of beige, we're going to Landes, France, a century ago. And we're gonna get some nice sweaters while we're there.  Now a surfing capital and tourism destination, a hundred years ago it was mostly marsh and forest. The hard-working sheep herders of the local marshland got tired of wet feet, as one does. The land was great for grazing sheep, but not so good for the humans who looked after them.So they decided to watch their sheep on stilts (the shepherds, not the sheep. Sheep are terribly clumsy on stilts) and as they strode, stilted and majestic across the marsh, they knitted and spun the wool from their own flocks. OPEN POST: The Sunday Roast with The Shmenge Brothers!

Hello Peckers, and welcome to the second weekly Sunday Roast. Today our esteemed guests are those globe-trotting celebrities and heartbreakers, The Shmenge Brothers ! Here's their Fan Page on Facebook ! And here they are leading a jaded NYC audience in their big hit, "Cabbage Rolls and Coffee"! I'm sure you're sophisticated enough to recognize them, and probably shared a cocktail hour or two on the Riviera with these two international men of mystique and musique. For those who are not, the Shmenge Brothers are Stan Shmenge (John Candy) and Yosh/Josh Shmenge (Eugene Levy), polka sensations from the historic and glamorous nation of Leutonia. While Canada (specifically the Kitchener/Waterloo area of Southern Ontario) may be their legal residence, where they live in their mom's split level, their hearts are in Leutonia, and in the music which brings together the sophisticated and glamorous world of polka enthusiasts around the world.  Before there was Jack Black p...
