WEEKEND MORNING COFFEE: Kleenex Tissue breaks up with Canada. Bernie Mardsen, co-founder of Whitesnake has died. Baby Spice son turned 16 (and we're feeling old). Alice & Santana stick their foot in their mouths.

Bonjour! This morning we have 2 old rockers who can't keep their mouths shut (and need to retire). Kleenex Tissue is saying "adieu" to Canada; and we remember a British musician who co-founded a band that's synonymous with the 1980's & MTV.  Grab your coffee or tea and let's get to it.

♦ Kleenex Tissue, which is owned by Kimberly Clark (sounds like the name of a casserole mom), is breaking up with Canada. Company execs said the reason they are going to stop selling the product in the great white north is due to "unique complexities". Translation: we're not making a big enough profit in Canada to keep our greedy shareholders happy.  So Canadians will not longer be able to wipe their tears or blow their noses with Kleenex tissue. Comment: What's going on Canada? Why are companies packing it up there? In recent years other big brands have pulled out including Bugles, Bagel Bites, and Little Debbie. Sadness for Canadians being deprived of these items.

♦ British musician Bernie Mardsen, co-founder and guitarist for Whitesnake has died. He was 72. The cause of death was bacterial meningitis diagnosed in 2022. Bernie passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and children. Bernie co-founded the band with David Coverdale who was the ex-singer of Deep Purple and Mick Moody. Bernie wrote some of Whitesnake's biggest hits including "Here We Go Again", "Fool for Loving You", and "She's a Woman".  Unknown to many, Bernie had one of the largest private guitar collections in the world. It included a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard known as “The Beast” which was put up for sale with a price exceeding $1.3 million.   Read More

Comment: Whitesnake was a huge hit maker back in the 1980's. Their hit "Here We Go Again" was played non-stop on radio stations and the video became synonymous with MTV. Although most people associate Bernie with rock music, he was an excellent blues musician. Condolences to his family.

♦ Want to feel old? Baby Spice (Govt Name: Emma Bunton) celebrated her son Beau's 16th birthday by sharing a few photos of the rarely seen kid. BTW, he's dating Martin Freeman's daughter and there's a cute photo of the 2 of them. Read More

Comment: The youngest of the Spice Girls, 47 yr old Emma' son turned 16?!? Ugh, I feel old.

♦  During his concert at New Jersey, Carlos Santana shared some eyebrow raising comments regarding his beliefs on LGBT issues. His comments resulted in a firestorm for the musician. Santana issued an apology on Facebook that said, "I want to honor and respect all person's ideals and beliefs. I am sorry for my insensitive comments. They don't reflect that I want to honor and respect all person’s ideals and beliefs. I realize that what I said hurt people and that was not my intent. I sincerely apologize to the transgender community and everyone I offended.”  The statement has since been deleted & no one knows why. Read More

Comment: Why do people have such a hard time adhering to the old saying, "never talk politics or religion with others"?  Keep your dumbass opinions to yourself and your mouth shut. It's not hard to do.

♦ Speaking of people who can't keep their opinions to themselves: Alice Cooper stuck his foot in his mouth by sharing his 2-cents regarding gender affirming healthcare. And his stupid comments lost him a contract with Vampyre Cosmetics. Alice and the company had signed a deal to launch a line of goth-theme products. If you're not familiar with Vampyre Cosmetics, they have about 130 stores. The company is “proudly women owned, disabled owned and LGBT+ owned”. Oh, the irony. They cancelled the partnership with him.  Read More

Comment: Alice Cooper made a career of breaking the rules when it comes to gender stereotypes. Why did he have to go shove his foot in his mouth?  Just keep your stupid, ignorant opinions to yourself. Once again...never discuss religion or politics with others.  BTW, old rockers like Alice Cooper (75) and Carlos Santana (76) who are still touring need to retire. But their ginormous egos won't let them. Maybe now they will.
