OPEN POST: It's Friday the 13th, Bitches!

Happy Friday the 13th, you lovely hors, and hooray for bad luck and superstition! Here are a few fun facts about the day we get to suffer even more misfortune and adversity than usual! Woo hoo!

  • Ancient Babylon's Code of Hammurabi omits the number 13 in its list of laws.
  • Wall Street: According to The Stress Management Center & Phobia Institute, an average of $700-$800 million dollars are lost every Friday the 13th because people are too afraid to travel, make large purchases, or conduct business.
  • The Friday the 13th film franchise was the highest grossing-horror franchise in the world until Halloween (2018) was released. Still, it's considered one of the most successful media franchises in America.
  • In 1881, members of "The Thirteen Club", a secret society noted for its philanthropic practices, attempted to dispel superstition surrounding the date by walking under ladders and spilling salt. During its existence, members included five US Presidents: Grover Cleveland, William McKinley, Chester Arthur, Benjamin Harrison, and Theodore Roosevelt.
  • Many tall buildings do not have a 13th floor.
  • Murderers disproportionately have 13 letters in their name. Some examples are:
    • Charles Manson
    • Jeffrey Dahmer
    • Aileen Wuornos
    • Vladimir Putin
Now get out there and tempt fate!
