Hot-cha! Is there anyone slinkier than Lola Falana? Starting her career in Italy, where she became a major TV and movie star, she was later mentored in the U.S. by Sammy Davis Jr., with whom she had an affair, and exploded like a heaven-sent supernova across Broadway stages and U.S. TV screens in the 70s and 80s. Vegas called, of course, and for a time, she was the city's highest paid performer, dubbed "The First Lady of Vegas." Sadly, she was soon after sidelined by multiple sclerosis in the early 1990s, but at 81 years old, she's still kickin', and in my book, still every inch a star.

Ah hahahahahaha! Or hooray, hurrah, two snaps and a hey! Can you believe Peckerwood Manor is one year old today? We're still here , dammit, and still kickin'.  And here you are, horing and roaring right along with us.  Below, each of us joyously reflect on this, our very first Cake Day. We were all shocked by the news of DListed's shuttering, but as sad as it was, I was even sadder to think I'd never again hear from everyone I'd come to know in the comments.
