EVENING NIGHTCAP: Levi's New Campaign With BeYAWNce. I Don't Get The Hamilton Hype. Elaine Dance Contest.

► Several months ago Levi's announced they were going to be launching an ad campaign featuring BeYAWNce to capitalize on her cowgirl cosplay.We all know that cowgirls wear stilettos, Hooters tight t-shirts, and full make up when they're out on the range wrangling cattle. The company has released the new ads with a series of videos (see below) that show the bazillionaire chanteuse in a variety of everyday settings. One of the clips has Beyawnce washing her jeans at a laundromat. Uh-huh, like Beyawnce would be caught dead in a laundromat. First of, 75% of washers at a laundromat are out of order and the fact she found one that works on her first try is unbelievable. Another  clip shows her at a pool hall mingling with commoners. And finally, there's a clip of Beyonce wearing coochie cutters and working as a waitress at a diner. Is this Levi's way to telling us that coochie cutters are the new uniform for waitresses? If so, I better tell my favorite waitress at IHOP so she can ditch the khaki slacks. The print campaign features Beyawnce wearing Levi's new  line of bedazzled jeans (which cost $250) and a wig snatched from the Marilyn Monroe statue at Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum.  Read More

Comment: So, which white woman is a more convincing spokesho to get you to pay $$$ for jeans? Is it the new MAGA eugenics darling Sydney Sweeney for American Eagle or a bleached-out Beyonce for Levi's?  I'm sticking with Wrangler.

► Linn Manuel Miranda announced yesterday during an appearance at The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon that Tony-award play, Hamilton, is finally getting a theatrical release on September 5.  Linn said he wanted it released 4 years ago but then Covid hit. So much for cashing-in on "Hamilton" frenzy. Instead, the movie was released via streaming but never in theaters. To honor the 10th anniversary of the play, Linn said his dream of having a theatrical release is finally coming true. Good for him I guess. Might as well get a quick paycheck anyway you can. Read More

Comment: I saw Hamilton and I must be one of a few handful of people who didn't like it. I  was excited to see it because everyone said it was the best thing since pull tabs on beer cans. Back then Hamilton fever was everywhere. You couldn't run into someone who wasn't yapping about it. After seeing it, I didn't get the hype. I had the same reaction when I saw "Rent" on Broadway years ago when it was the end-all-be-all of plays. I didn't get it either. Both were a major let down for me.  

 

► The Brooklyn Cyclones, a NY minor league baseball team, held it's annual Seinfeld promotion featuring an Elaine dance contest. If you're not familiar with the Elaine dance, it's one of the best episodes of the show. Julia Louise Dreyfus, who plays Elaine, is a really bad dancer with her "little kicks" moves It's like watching a brunette Tay-Tay disco dancing to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The contest had some really good entries, but in the end there can only be one winner. Olivia Vessell was crowned the ultimate Elaine dancer. OPEN POST: With The Old Mill Pond By The Old Mill Stream!

In about 1820-something, the first European immigrants to settle hereabouts (fuckin' Krauts, just like me) built a mill, and it made them very wealthy. They were generous and decent people over the years (their former home is now a museum) and "The Old Mill" (even though it was disused the last few decades) stood tall. People loved it. It was one of those places that made everyone nostalgic, even as weatherbeaten and decrepit as it must have looked by the 1950s. But then it burned down one night, and as much as I've looked online, I've never found a picture of it. But clues remain. After it burned down, they left the cogs and gears where they fell, possibly out of respect for the old structure (but more likely because they probably weigh about 6 tons; they're so heavy they've sunk to slightly below ground level), but either way I like it.
