THE ROVING PECKER PRESENTS: "Stay Golden" by Caza86!

Greetings, Manor Hors! Periodically, "The Roving Pecker" presents urgent missives from filthy esteemed guest writers. Today's is from Caza86!

Let's take a trip down memory lane with one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, "The Golden Girls." Airing for seven seasons (not nearly enough) from 1985 to 1992, "The Golden Girls" featured a superstar cast of the stage, television and silver screen.

First, there was Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornak, a divorced, part time teacher with acerbic wit.

Rue McClanahan as Blanche Devereaux, the oversexed widow from the south who enjoyed many, many, many late nights with gentleman callers.

Estelle Getty as Dorothy's mother Sophia Petrillo, who comes to live with the girls after a fire at her retirement home, "Shady Pines," and is very proud of her Sicilian heritage.

And Betty White as Rose Nylund. Hailing from Saint Olaf, Minnesota, she's a simple farm girl with a lot of stories.

The show was groundbreaking for its time, with women "of a certain age" living their lives to the fullest, sharing their experiences, and making new memories. Surprisingly edgy, and touching on taboo topics such as sex later in life, it also delved into the AIDs epidemic and a slew of relevant topics and events from that era. "The Golden Girls" had a huge following of gheys (because: duh), who identified with these sarcastic, funny, vulnerable and colorful women.

At the heart of the show was a group of friends who, no matter what circumstances always came together to love one another unconditionally and have a slice of late-night cheesecake. Anyone who is a fan has a favorite episode (or several) and can often recite full dialogue word for word from the countless times they have watched the series.

It's comfort television at its best and these residents of Miami have a front seat in the hearts of many. We'll always thank them for being a friend. So if you catch it on one of the caboodles of streaming services (in the U.S., the UK, and Canada, it's on Hulu; in Australia, it's on Stan), hunker down and enjoy the ride. You'll be happy you did.

And now (drumroll, please), two urgent questions:

1. Are you a Dorothy, a Blanche, a Rose or a Sophia? You may only pick one.

2. What is your all-time favorite episode?

As you contemplate your answers, please enjoy "That Was No Lady," a classic episode in which Dorothy unwittingly falls for (gasp) a married man.
