EVENING NIGHTCAP: American Psycho Reboot News. "Hold My Beer" Says Dane's Go Fund Me To Van Der Beek's.
► A while back I reported that Hollywood was going to reboot / rehash / re-imagine /regurgitate the classic 2000 movie, "American Psycho" that launched Christian Bale's career as a leading man. Well, according to the book's author, Bret Easton Ellis, the studio can't seem to find an actor willing to step-in the Gucci loafers to play the role of Patrick Bateman. "A couple of high profile actors, whom I can't name, have turned it down", says Bret Easton Ellis. Rumors are swirling the 2 actors were Jacob Elordi and Austin Butler. Read More

Comment: Wait a sec: Austin Butler? The dweeb who stayed in Elvis character long after filming ended and kept using the phony Elvis accent for almost a year because "he couldn't shake it". Ha, ha, ha! Maybe its a good thing he turned it down. We don't need this over hyped walking bottle of Zzquil re-interpreting an iconic character like Patrick Bateman. Austin as Elvis was bad enough.

► As scrutiny and criticism continue to plague the James Van Der Beek "Go Fund Me", which has raised almost $3 million despite the actor having purchased a 36-acre ranch for almost $4.8 million, plus owing a Beverly Hills mansion valued at $5 million, friends of Eric Dane have started a Go Fund Me. He passed away last week of ALS. The day after his passing, the page went up. The goal was to raise $250,000 which was changed to $500,000 when the cash started rolling it. According to the page, proceeds will go to his 2 daughters (age 15 and 13). Eric and his wife, Rebecca Gayheart (who filed for divorce but put it on hold after he became ill) have a combined net worth of $12 million. BTW, Rebecca is engaged to Peter Morton, co-founder of the Hard Rock Cafe. His net worth is $800 million. That ain't a typo.
Questions are being raised about the why they need the money. Many are saying the funds should go towards ALS research instead. The page is under review and proceeds on hold. According to a statement by a Go Fund Me exec, "the page is under review to make sure the intended beneficiary is added to the fundraiser as part of our standard review". Translation: GFM execs are caught in a PR nightmare. They don't want to anything tarnishing their company, which had over $100 million in revenue last year. Meanwhile, the public backlash over celeb greed is getting good. *grabbing popcorn* Read More

Comment: First of, ALS is a horrible disease. My condolences to the family, especially the kids. Okay...now for the rant: We have two people with a combined net worth of $12 million that do not need a Go Fund Me page. Plus, Rebecca is engaged to a dude worth $800 million. If the donations are going to ALS research, then fine. But Dane's & Van Der Beek's GFM cash grabs are disgraceful, no matter who set it up. IMO, the entire Go Fund Me company needs to rewrite their operating rules, put in guardrails, and do a better job of vetting fundraisers. But that's not going to happen. GFM is an easy cash cow for execs. In the meantime, celebs and wealthy charlatans looking to prey on a sympathetic public can Go F**k Themselves and piss off.
