Greetings, music sloots, and welcome to another edition of Manor Music Monday, today with a cool breeze from more innocent times. How innocent? Let's just say that tonight at the Manor's "Booty Bang" lounge and dinette, the singer DJ Li'l Scratch will be playing, who first hit it big in the 1950s, is the epitome of sweetness and light. If you're looking for lewd innuendo or dirty-minded growls (You: "Always," Me: Same, bitch"), then you won't find them here - and I mean that in a good way. Especially now, in the brutal heat of summer, we could use some breezy, carefree, and yes, innocent, music, don't you think? Me, too? 


And truly, there's no one more breezy and carefree than Joanie Sommers. Wheeee! Peppy Joanie had a varied career from the 1950s through the early 80s, going back and forth from jazz to standards, and with the advent of rock 'n' roll, pop-rock tunes. All the while, she was appearing at top-flight night clubs from coast-to-coast, like the legendary Ye Little Club in Beverly Hills, where she made her debut at age 18, and the equally legendary Village Vanguard in New York City. She also worked as an in-demand voice-over artist, commercial jingle singer, TV pitch woman, most notably as "That Pepsi Girl," and further plied her perkiness as a frequent game show guest on programs like "Match Game." In other words, Joanie worked hard for the money. For decades. 

But the hard work never showed, because no matter what medium she was in, she had an infectious, unforced niceness - a rare quality that cannot be faked (trust me, I've tried). Let's call her the Doris Day of early pop music, because not only was she "nice" like Doris, she had terrific pipes too.

OPEN POST: We'll Probably Get a Barbie Sequel

  Credit: Warner Bros. Remember 2023? When everything was pink? Well prepare your retinas for a likely sequel to the Barbie movie, as it's being rumoured that the talent from the first movie are in negotiations for one right now. According to the New York Times, Warner Bros. are scrambling to secure a deal with Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Greta Gerwig. If they don't get something together by December, the rights will revert to Mattel. The talks have allegedly been going on for months and they have yet to finalize something.  No word yet on whether Oppenheimer will also have a sequel, so we can have Barbehnheimer 2: Nuclear Boogaloo ! Will you be checking out Barbie 2 if and when it comes out, Peckers? Or was the first one....Kenough? I'll see myself out. Sources: NME, NYT
