Our first Shitbag contender for September is Ed Sheeran. The famous ginger found himself in very hot water this month after rapper Macklemore expressed his support for Palestine during his opening act on Sheeran's tour. Robert Kraft, who owns Gillette stadium, decried the rapper's statement, claiming it was deeply hurtful to the Jewish community. He and other stadium owners pressured Sheeran's team to drop Macklemore from the tour, which he did. The backlash following this decision was swift. Many celebrities rallied behind Macklemore, other supporting acts on Sheeran's tour elected to drop out, and ticket sales plummeted. Sheeran has not been handling the pushback well: he cried onstage at a concert the other week in Philly and apologized for "making mistakes." Our first contender for August Shitbag is Eli Roth. The horror director and Greta Thunberg bully  faced backlash this month when he admitted that he'd used generative AI in the production of his latest film, Ice Cream Man . In an interview with popular digital media site Polygon, Roth discussed his background in animation and shared how he approached the design of certain scenes in the film. He says he drew out the scenes he wanted and worked with an animation team to help match the style of 1920s Mickey Mouse cartoons. Sounds good, right? Well he later clarified that "a very small portion of a few scenes in the film" used generative AI. Roth, who has directed movies like Hostel and Cabin Fever, has successfully used practical effects and garnered a cult following of his work. If you recall, McGregor scored the November 2024 Shitbag title after he was found liable of rape in Irish civil court. Despite not facing criminal charges, McGregor was ordered to pay damages to his victim. McGregor has been doing press rounds to promote his upcoming UFC return in July (Spoiler alert: his knee gave out 69 SECONDS into the match!) which is why he was booked for the Tonight Show. The Aerosmith frontman is being sued by Julia Misley, who alleges that Tyler groomed and sexually assaulted her back in the 1970s. Misley claims that she and Tyler began a relationship when she was 16 and he was in his mid-20s. If that wasn't icky enough, the singer even convinced Misley's mother to grant him legal guardianship over her daughter so she could travel with the band when they went on tour. She also alleges that she became pregnant with Tyler's baby, and he convinced her to get an abortion. While much of Misley's original lawsuit has been thrown out due to the statute of limitations on sexual assault, a judge has granted permission for the allegations that occurred in Los Angeles to proceed to court, due to the state's "lookback window" law. Our first April contender is Katy Perry. The 41-year old popstar found herself in hot water this month when Ruby Rose shared that she had been sexually assaulted by Perry back in 2010. Rose alleges that she was at a Melbourne nightclub laying on a friend's lap, when Perry approached her and stuck her crotch on the actor's face. Rose says she was violently ill immediately after the assault. Police are allegedly investigating the incident. The 61-year old actor was sued this month by an anonymous 30-year old woman who says that she met Glover through social media in 2015 and the pair shared messages for years. Glover often asked the woman to come and visit him in LA. She alleges that they met in Germany in 2023, where he showed off his collection of Nazi memorabilia. Yikes. In 2024, she alleges that Glover "lured" her to his house by promising her a home and a job as his assistant. But she claims that Glover wanted to control her actions, track her whereabouts, and "basically serve as his live-in girlfriend/sex slave." Once she did escape his home, she claims that the actor physically assaulted her, grabbing her neck and choking her in a headlock.
