OPEN POST: Petite Nature Series All Over Paris and a Mexican Prison Cat

It is Sunday, and I am fresh out of snark and I stumbled upon a story about a poor Sphynx cat that was rescued after a violent riot and prison break in Juárez, Mexico. How the cat survived with hardened criminals is beyond amazing. But the cartel assassins and gang members weren't all that kind. The poor thing has prison gang tats! You read that right. The damn fools tattooed the cat with one reading Hecho en Mexico-Made in Mexico like he was part of the notorious murderous Mexicles Cartel!

Gang member tattoo close-up.

What in the world had that cat seen, and who the hell owned him? How did he survive? Why was he so healthy?

Look at poor kitty...sigh...I decided to balance that outlandish story with something nice. Something peaceful and serene. How about art? How about a French artist making art for the masses to enjoy?

Petite Nature series by the artist Steeven Salvat can be found in the streets of Paris in unexpected places, fascinating people who are lucky enough to see one. To begin these the artist collected wildflowers and fauna from outside of the city and used it along with illustrations of insects and small animals. The China ink drawings are then attached to the Paris streets using wheat paste. “The first time I pasted in the street was a gamechanger: it made me realise how different the impact of my drawings was when they are three metres high in a lovely street. It’s always fun to share a moment with the people passing by when the work is in progress.”

I had more questions because I apparently have a masochistic streak that isn't easily mollified by delicate Parisian street art. You see, Mexican Prison Cat was expected to be as mean and rough as his gang, but he wasn't at all. The baby boy was friendly, affectionate, and easygoing. He even likes people! How?! Los Mexicles are one of the worst gangs in Mexico and have no qualms about doing just about anything inhumane you can imagine.  Maybe a psychopath animal lover owned him? A sicario who loved naked cats cuddled him? We will never know. They think he might have belonged to a gang leader who was killed during the intense shootout between prisoners and law enforcement that ensued that fateful day in 2023.

We do know that he has a forever home in Texas with a family who were more than happy to adopt him. Mexican Prison Cat had a much better ending than his owner did in this story. I rejoice for justice! He is a young cat, so he will spend many safe years loved and spoiled with a diet made for...okay, here goes my curiosity. What did he eat, and how in the world did they smuggle a pedigreed $2,000 kitten into a maximum security prison?! Very easily, says the guard who is still hiding ill-begotten pesos in his mattress.

His one-year anniversary of freedom is coming up. I hope he is
thriving and happy. If not, there is always room at the manor.

Hopefully, his new family spoke Spanish, or does Mexican Prison Cat still think, Oye, ¿qué estás diciendo a mí ahora? (Hey, what are you saying to me, now?) and ¿Cómo dices que quiero más golosinas? (How do you say more treats?)
